2017年里約奧運(yùn)會(huì)、殘奧會(huì)的獎(jiǎng)牌總共將有4924枚，這些獎(jiǎng)牌將包含回收的電子設(shè)備的金屬。巴西造幣公司成為本屆奧運(yùn)會(huì)、殘奧會(huì)的獎(jiǎng)牌制造商，他們負(fù)責(zé)制造賽事總共4924枚金、銀、銅牌，以及75000枚參賽紀(jì)念獎(jiǎng)牌。

奧運(yùn)會(huì)獎(jiǎng)牌正面印有象征勝利的月桂樹葉，背面是勝利女神像。殘奧會(huì)獎(jiǎng)牌正面印有代表種子的卵石，背面是殘奧會(huì)標(biāo)志。此外，殘奧會(huì)獎(jiǎng)牌還可以通過鋼珠發(fā)出不同的聲音，金牌聲音最大，銀牌適中，銅牌最弱。

和奧運(yùn)會(huì)的生態(tài)主題相一致，運(yùn)動(dòng)員們接受獎(jiǎng)牌時(shí)將登上的領(lǐng)獎(jiǎng)臺(tái)由有機(jī)材料制成，根據(jù)設(shè)計(jì)理念，領(lǐng)獎(jiǎng)臺(tái)在奧運(yùn)會(huì)結(jié)束后可改造成家具循環(huán)使用。

殘奧會(huì)獎(jiǎng)牌共有2642枚，包括877枚金牌，876枚銀牌和889枚銅牌。每一枚獎(jiǎng)牌都內(nèi)置有一個(gè)小機(jī)關(guān)，利用小鋼珠讓獎(jiǎng)牌在搖動(dòng)時(shí)發(fā)出聲音。獎(jiǎng)牌等級(jí)越高，發(fā)出的聲音越大。有視覺障礙的運(yùn)動(dòng)員可通過這種方式區(qū)分獎(jiǎng)牌。
